Matisyahu, reggae's first (and, probably, only) Hasidic star, has left JDub records, the management company that represented him through his early successes, including his first gold record, Live At Stubb's. Matisyahu, who currently has two records charting on CMJ (both the live album and his first studio LP Youth which was No. 1 on CMJ's Retail 100 chart), had three years remaining on his contract with JDub, a non-profit management and record label group created to promote Jewish music. The label's founders, Aaron Bisman and Jacob Harris, will be pursuing legal action for the breached contract, according to The New York Times. According to www.jewschool.com, Matisyahu has already inked a deal with Gary Gersh, the same person who steered Nirvana, Jimmy Eat World, and the Foo Fighters into major label success. JDub has not been Matisyahu's record label for two years. Youth was released by Or-Epic, who also re-released Live At Stubb's. www.hasidicreggae.com
