Canadian Grammys Recognize Arcade Fire, BSS
Apr 3, 2006
Story by: Rebecca Raber

On April 2, the Junos, Canada's answer to the Grammys, were handed out in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Though it was British Columbian crooner Michael Bublé who won the most awards (with 4), indie rock darlings Arcade Fire and Broken Social Scene were also feted. Montreal's Arcade Fire won Songwriter Of The Year for tracks off their 2004 debut, Funeral. Broken Social Scene won the coveted Alternative Album Of The Year award, an honor they also took home in 2003, for their self-titled third record. The Toronto-based collective also performed at the ceremony, which was inexplicably hosted by Pamela Anderson. Last night's other Juno winners included Daniel Lanois, who won Instrumental Album Of The Year for Belladonna, and Neil Young, who won two awards for Prairie Wind, including Producer Of The Year. In what was, no doubt, one of the weirdest moments of the telecast, Mr. Gwyneth Paltrow—-whose band, Coldplay, shared the prize for International Album Of The Year with the Black Eyed Peas-—inducted Bryan Adams into the Canadian Music Hall Of Fame. Who knew he was such a fan of the “Summer Of '69” singer? Maybe he thought he was there to toast Ryan Adams, instead?
