Sonic Youth's breakthrough 1988 album, Daydream Nation, will be one of 50 recordings added to the Library Of Congress' National Recording Registry. This registry, which adds 50 recordings every year, looks for songs, speeches and other recordings that are "culturally, historically or aesthetically important, and/or inform or reflect life in the United States." Recordings have to be at least 10 years old to be nominated, and can be nominated by anyone to be reviewed by the Registry's board. Daydream Nation was inducted this year along with Jerry Lee Lewis' "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On" and Buddy Holly's "That'll Be the Day." The next nomination deadline is July 1, 2006, so hurry if you're looking to add Pinkerton or Odelay.
