Profane New Record From Elvis Costello
Mar 23, 2009
Story by: Eric Davidson

Master craftsman, Elvis Costello, edges back into his rootsy Americana leanings on Secret, Profane And Sugarcane, out June 2, on Hear Music. Despite his recent Sundance Channel TV talk show, Spectacle, and all the other projects you always hear Costello getting himself involved in, he's somehow found time to join up again with also always-busy producer T Bone Burnett for this new album. Burnett also produced 1986's King Of America and 1989's Spike. A gaggle of country/bluegrass vets back-up Costello for his first whole album recorded in Nashville since 1981's Almost Blue, his first foray into classic Southern sounds.

A couple of songs were co-written with Burnett and one song is a collaboration with Loretta Lynn. While the album is new, a number of songs date back to 2007, when Costello tried them out opening solo on a Bob Dylan tour.

A double vinyl edition of Secret will be available with two extra tracks.
