1970's cult power-poppers Big Star have been dormant for some time, but their label, Ardent/Stax, via Concord Music Group, is keeping their fire alive with a new set of re-releases, due out June 16. Both #1 Record and Radio City have been fully remastered and will be released together on one CD along with a never-before-released single mix of "In the Street" and single edit of "O My Soul." The remastered albums will also be available as two separate vinyl LPs that will feature accurately reproduced original artwork, right down to the Ardent Records label. Big Star was formed by ex-Box Tops singer Alex Chilton, Chris Bell (vocals, guitar), Andy Hummel (bass) and Jody Stephens (drums) in Memphis. The band set up shop in Ardent Studios, helped along by owners/in-house producers John Fry and Terry Manning. Two studio albums later, after Hummel's departure and Chris Bell's tragic death in the late '70s, Big Star ceased to exist in it's original incarnation. Chilton has had a successful solo career since then, producing and recording, and has led recent reunions of the remaining members, playing the late night circuit.
