Since the release of The Tyranny Of Distance in 2001, Ted Leo And The Pharmacists have been on quite the record label roller coaster ride. Their first, Lookout! Records, released three of their albums (including The Tyranny Of Distance) and two EPs, but in 2005 declared bankruptcy. Leo then signed with Touch And Go, which released one full-length, Living With the Living, and two EPs, one of which was digital-only. In February, however, Touch And Go announced that it was downsizing as a response to the economy and would no longer put out new releases. Then yesterday (September 23), Matador announced that they were beyond thrilled to have stolen Ted Leo And The Pharmacists from the label-less void. The band will join Matador's already impressive roster, which includes Sonic Youth, another veteran artist the label picked up, as well as young turks like Fucked Up and Girls. Currently, Ted Leo And The Pharmacists are recording their new album at the Seaside Lounge in Brooklyn, and Matador has said that it expects to release the album early in 2010. On their website, the band have also announced four December East Coast tour dates in DC, Philadelphia, Cambridge and New York City.
