Asthmatic Kitty Records, founded by Sufjan Stevens and his father-in-law Lowell Brams, promises that by December 8th it will have doubled its music collection by adding three more volumes to the Library Catalog Music Series. The collection, intended for films or television shows but also prescribed for either home or at-the-office background music, will expand to six volumes, the first three having already been released in July. The first volume, Music For Lubbock, is a collection of electronic music. The second, Law Of Least Effort: Music For Measurement, Asthmatic Kitty Records describes as being an instrumental, soul-infused tribute to the 1960's and 70's. And the last album released thus far, Music For Drums, is exactly what the title implies: a myriad of raucous drum beats. However, on December 8th, three more albums will be released: the fourth volume, Music For Insomnia, was created by Lowell Brams, with help from Sufjan Stevens and the National's Bryce Dessner. Helado Negro's Roberto Carlos Lange compiled the fifth volume, Music For Memory, which serves the background music for both everyday memory jolt as well as eye-opening epiphanies. The final, and sixth, volume to be released this year, Music For Savage Tropical Imagery was created by former member of Crystal Skulls, Yuukie Mathews, and the album is described as being the perfect compilation for commuting, as the album's name refers more to the asphalt jungle rather than to the rainforest. No word, yet, about the most anticipated Kitty release yet: a new (non-instrumental) Suf album, but we'll keep you posted. http://asthmatickitty.com/
