 STRAITJACKET FITS: Missing From Melt
Nov 10, 2000

It might be somewhat misleadingly titled (three of this EP's five songs are on SJF's forthcoming domestic LP, Melt), but this lil' 5" carries some of the most glorious pop moments we've heard all year. Yeah, they're from New Zealand, and their songs carry that odd, off-kilter melodic lilt that even the grungiest NZers have, but SJF's chillingly complex songs have entered an entirely new realm here. All five cuts are cool, but best are "Missing Presumed Drowned" and "Bad Note For A Heart," which flow along quite nicely until Shayne Carter and Andrew Brough's voices join for the gorgeously panoramic choruses, turning merely great songs into truly breathtaking ones. Watch for the full LP next month.
