Underworld Compile 'Athens'
Oct 22, 2009
Story by: Zara Golden

Techno stars Underworld will release a new compilation, Athens, November 4 via !K7. The album, which will be the first in a series, is being credited to Underworld Vs The Misterons, a moniker for Underworld's Karl Hyde and Rick Smith along with collaborators Darren Price and Steven Hall. Generally known for shiny and shimmery soundscapes, this comp highlights the experimental foundations of the band's dance music—from prog to dance to jazz. The album's musical agenda is wide reaching, featuring everything from a take on "Oh," a song originally heard on the soundtrack to Danny Boyle's 1997 film A Life Less Ordinary, to a stream-of-consciousness rap by Hyde on the Brian Eno collaboration "Beebop Hurry."
