Journalist Sues YouTube
Oct 19, 2006
Story by: Katie Reedy

MTV News has reported that the mighty media site YouTube, still riding the crest of their recent 4.5 billion dollar sellout, has been slapped with a lawsuit based on claims that a clip on their site violates copyright laws. The clip, which journalist Robert Tur claims as his exclusive property, depicts footage from the Los Angeles riots of 1992. Tur is currently asking for a whopping $150,000 for every uploaded session of the video. A YouTube spokesperson has stated that Tur's claim, which is the company's first intellectual property suit, is unsubstantiated, but commenters have hailed it as the beginning of a more difficult era for YouTube as it formally emerges in the business world.
