Absolutely Kosher Signs Three Bands

Absolutely Kosher Signs Three Bands
Oct 26, 2006
Story by: Sam Duke

We always heard good things come in threes, and California indie Absolutely Kosher—home to the likes of the Wrens, Pinback and Sunset Rubdown—has announced not just one, but three additions to their roster: +/- (Plus/Minus), Chris Garneau and the Affair. And to make the trifecta perfect, all the artists call Brooklyn their home. Three-piece rockers +/- (which features ex-Versus members James Balyut and Patrick Ramos) released two full-lengths and one EP on DC-based Teenbeat before making the jump to Absolutely Kosher for their new album, Let's Build A Fire, which hit shelves this past Tuesday (October 24). Pensive singer/songwriter Chris Garneau has been wowing otherwise uptight New York audiences for years and has signed to the label for his forthcoming debut, Music For Tourists, which was produced by Garneau and Duncan Sheik (yeah, that one) and will see release January 23. Also coming out that day is Yes Yes To You, the debut album from hotly tipped Arcade Fire sound-alikes the Affair. The group signed to Absolutely Kosher at last year's South By Southwest Music Conference, even though the label had just missed the band's performance. To get the full story check out the label's website, where you can find details on all releases and tour dates for all three artists. They will also be joining their new labelmates Two Mule Team, Get Him Eat Him and Bottom Of The Hudson at the label's CMJ showcase on Wednesday, November 1 at R&R.
