DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN: Irony Is A Dead Scene EP
Sep 30, 2002
By Amy Sciarretto

Mike Patton is an icon of invention, reinventing himself and his famous pipes with each project. New Jersey’s Dillinger Escape Plan is universally lauded for its technicality and its mind-bending, memory-erasing fury. Put the luminaries together and you’re playing with fire and you’re gonna get burned. Lucky for metal pyromaniacs! The four-song Irony Is A Dead Scene EP is a brilliant, inhuman clusterfuck, featuring a cover of Aphex Twin’s “Come To Daddy.” Patton’s unpredictable improvisation expertly complements DEP’s schizoid, mathematical precision. In fact, the former Faith No More/current Tomahawk and Fantomas frontman’s vocal mania is right at home with DEP’s musical mayhem, injecting even some goofy unpredictability into Dillinger’s dry-humored, yet serious mania on this one-off release.
