If you haven’t had a good laugh in a while, hope is on the horizon. Not only is the funniest rock duo in music history getting ready to hit a big screen near you, one of the men behind the funniest sock duo in TV history is helping them do it. Yes, the long-rumored Tenacious D feature film is finally officially on track, following a deal with New Line Cinema that will bring the antics and music of Jack Black and Kyle Gass into movie theaters around the world, and Sifl & Olly co-creator Liam Lynch is set to both direct and co-write the project with the pair. After gaining notoriety through a series of infamous shorts on HBO in the ’90s, Tenacious D went on to record a full-length album featuring material from the show, with the core duo of actor/comedians Black and Gass joined by musical guests including Foo Fighter Dave Grohl for the release. Lynch meanwhile, became a cult celebrity courtesy of the short-lived but much-loved Sifl & Olly show on MTV, which starred two free associating sock puppets and featured songs that rivaled the D in both hilarity and inventiveness. Lynch recently scored a surprise hit for himself with his song, “United States Of Whatever” (originally featured on the S&O show), after it shot up the UK charts late last year. The original version of the song is available in streaming audio at www.sifl-n-olly.com.
