Pink Floyd Meets The Guillotine

Pink Floyd Meets The Guillotine
Jul 14, 2005

Yesterday marked the 216th anniversary of Bastille Day (google it if you slept through history class, slacker!) The occasion seemed an appropriate way to kick off the impending release of Ça Ira, Roger Waters' operatic chronicling of the French Revolution, slated for release September 27. The work is a three-act opera for full orchestra, soloists and choirs, the first edition of the release will include a double SACD in Dolby Digital 5.1 SurroundSound and extensive 60-page liner notes including Waters' lyrics, original illustrations, production notes and more. A bonus DVD details the history of the project and includes interviews and exclusive in-studio footage. The opera is Waters first for full orchestra and voice. He began the undertaking in 1989, during the Bicentennial of the French Revolution. Ça Ira is based upon an opera of the same name written in French by Etienne Roda-Gil in 1989 as part of the Bicentennial. Now isn't this a better reason to study French then that damn "Voulez-vous couchez avec moi, ce soir?" song.
