Storied music publisher Famous Music LLC has been acquired by Sony/ATV Music Publishing from Viacom. Sony/ATV, which is co-owned by Michael Jackson, will take control of Famous' more than 125,000 songs and sound cues, a catalog that includes standards "Moon River," "Silver Bells" and "That's Amore," as well as the themes from The Godfather and Mission: Impossible. It also includes hits by recent artists such as Eminem, Shakira and Bjork. In a statement, the King Of Pop himself remarked that, "This is a milestone event for Sony/ATV Music Publishing. The diverse collection of songs in this catalog range from timeless classics to contemporary hits, and I am pleased to add the acquisition of Famous Music to Sony/ATV." Hmm. Wonder what Paul McCartney thinks of all this. www.famousmusic.com
