The Nationwide Mercury Music Prize—which promotes UK artists by selecting the 12 most impressive British and Irish records of the past year—have announced the shortlist for the 2007 edition of the honor. Last year's victors Arctic Monkeys lead a diverse pack of nominees that features neo-soul queen Amy Winehouse, grime wordsmith Dizzee Rascal (who is also up for his second win) and the brightly clothed men of Klaxons. On September 4, one shortlist nominee will be announced as the winner during the Nationwide Mercury Prize Show, to be broadcast on BBC TV and Radio. Previous winners of the prize have included Antony & The Johnsons and Franz Ferdinand.
