MySpace has announced plans for a new platform through which they will distribute music through advertising. The social-networking site hopes that their widespread proliferation, combined with their record label and already established relationships with advertisers, will draw users to acquire new music via their "friending" model. One of the first attempts will come this March when punk band Pennywise will release a new album. Instead of purchasing the album at, say, iTunes, for example, fans will be able to go to mobile music distributor Textango's MySpace page, add them as a friend, and then download the album for free. The relationship will be symbiotic in that MySpace will gain members, while Textango gains friends and exposure. www.myspace.com www.textango.com
