Bon Iver Has A Good Winter

Bon Iver Has A Good Winter
Dec 4, 2007
Story by: Abby Margulies

Bon Iver's debut album, For Emma, Forever Ago, which was self-released earlier this year, will get an official distribution February 19 courtesy of Jagjaguwar. Justin Vernon, the man behind the band, recorded most of the songs in his cabin in the northwest woods of Wisconsin. Bon Iver takes its name from the intentionally misspelled French phrase for "good winter," and Vernon, with his forthcoming release and current tour, is making sure that these cold months are just that.

The acoustic compilation is primarily a solo effort, with the addition of trumpet and trombone on "For Emma" and drum and guest vocals on "Flume." Currently the soft-singing folk artist is forsaking the Wisconsin snow for some East Coast slush in support of Elvis Perkins on an eight-date tour of the US and Canada. Vernon plans to tour additionally after the album's release, and will make an appearance at SXSW.
