During an auction of Beatles memorabilia in Worthing, England, on Wednesday, the star item surprisingly turned out to be a lock of John Lennon's hair, which sold for $48,000, according to the Associated Press. The locks, which came inside a signed copy of Lennon's book, A Spaniard In The Works, and had been kept by the Beatles former hairdresser, Betty Glasow, were only expected to fetch a more modest $4000 to $6000 (or 2000 to 3000 pounds). The lucky (so we think) winner was an unidentified telephone bidder. Other items sold at the auction included photos autographed to Glasow, and one in particular—signed "George 'Dandruff' Harrison"—sold for $13,000.
