That veteran alt-rocker who knows no creative lull, Bob Mould, will be releasing his newest solo record, District Line (Anti), February 5 with a nationwide tour to follow. This is Mould's debut for the Anti label and his first solo record since 2005's Body Of Song (Yep Roc). But it's not like he's been napping on a beach somewhere in between. After having just released a techno-rcok collaboration with DJ partner Richard Morel, Blowoff, last year, touring on his recently released Circle Of Friends DVD, and doing various DJ stints in his DC digs, Mould somehow found time to craft what is being described as a return to his flying V-centric days. While Mould's projects always come with promises to his longtime followers that this one will please longtime followers, District Line may be the closest in sonic similarity to his catchy, Sugar/Husker Du guitar-based bash-aways. And while Mould has been notoriously reluctant to play the old faves on previous tours, he seems to have relented a bit, as this jaunt—featuring ex-Fugazi drummer Brendan Canty on the skins—will feature songs from his whole career.
