Artists Get Investment Help From Heineken, Amazon
Jan 17, 2008
Story by: Rachael Darmanin

Sellaband, a web service that allows unsigned artists to raise money from fans by selling shares, has reached agreements with Heineken, Amazon and the Orchard. The beverage company has signed on as the primary sponsor of their live events, and plans to support future compilation albums that will consist of the website's top bands. Amazon.com UK has added a section to the website that links to their store, while the Orchard has agreed to global distribution and marketing for their most wanted acts. Sellaband, whose tagline boasts "You are the label," allows users to buy $10 shares in an act, with the artists trying to reach $50,000 to record an album. All "believers," will then receive an exclusive Digi-Pack CD with the result of the professional studio-recordings. Advertising revenues generated via SellaBand are shared equally between the artists, "believers" and the website. So far 13 of the 6,000 current artists have reached the goal to record.
