Daft Punk Emit 'Electroma' DVD
Mar 5, 2008
Story by: Joshua Pressman

Daft Punk have revealed that their experimental film Electroma will be released in dual format home video (DVD and Blu-ray) on July 22 via Vice. It should come as no surprise that the electro pioneers have dabbled in cinema, as their previous directorial credits entail music videos for their singles ("Fresh," "Robot Rock" and "Technologic") as well as motley movies(D.A.F.T. and Interstella 5555). However, all of their film endeavors thus far have been inextricably tied to the music. Electroma differs entirely in that it does not feature one note of Daft Punk's music.

Initially premiering at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival, the duo's 74-minute feature-length directorial debut was resoundingly well-received during a North American theatrical run last year. Electroma came into fruition while shooting footage for the title track from 2005's Human After All. According to Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, the project was an inadvertent extension of the aforementioned song. Moreover, the film's premise revolves around two robots, of course, and their fervent quest to become human. It sounds exactly like the kind of bizarre yet inventive sci-fi homage we'd expect from the dudes that made robots cool again.

Both the DVD and Blu-ray versions will be specially packed with embossed cover images and a 40-page book of stills from the film—all wrapped up in a steel, robotic casing. Upcoming screenings will be held in Orlando and Tampa, Florida.

Upcoming Screenings For Electroma:
3/13 - Orlando, FL - The Club at Firestone
3/14 - Tampa, FL - Czar
