Argentinean-born, Swedish-raised singer/songwriter José González, who just released his first full-length record, Veneer, on Hidden Agenda/Parasol, has just signed with Mute North America. The Mute label will release his second, still-untitled record in March 2006. Mute probably became interested in signing González after they caught wind of the enormous praise currently being slathered all over Veneer, which recently debuted in the US after winning a Swedish Grammy in 2004. Or maybe they heard González was playing the CMJ Showcase on Oct. 18, and decided to snap him up before the event drove his price up. Mute is keeping mum about their motivations (typical), but anyone who is able should come check out the showcase, as it is one of a handful of intimate appearances González will be making in the New York area this month. Don't sleep on the Swede. Tour Dates: 10/16 - Brooklyn, NY - Sound Fix (in store appearance) 10/17 - Jersey City, NJ - WFMU Irene Trudell Show 10/18 - New York, NY - The Living Room (CMJ Showcase) www.jose-gonzalez.com
