How does a go-gettin' but money-conscious band stay ahead? Easy, cut a few expenses here or there: Get one less drum tech, switch cell phone plans, or, fuck it, shoot your own music video in your backyard with a dance you made up. Take Chicago's OK Go, for instance, whose homemade video for "A Million Ways" was downloaded over a half-million times in its first month online. In the home-recorded video the band performs a completely self-choreographed dance, which reveals a range of dance influences, from Michael Jackson’s "Beat It" video to 1950s east coast swing and alcohol. OK Go seem to be keeping the DIY spirit alive in other ways as well. The band also designed and programmed www.a1000000ways.com, a site where fans can send the single to their friends in exchange for iTunes downloads. The ever-well-dressed boys will also be teaching your mom how to dance. That's not a diss—they'll be on Good Morning America this Thursday, October 20, to show off their moves. The band will also be hitting the road later this month to support their Capitol release, Oh No. Close your eyes, and you can hear the screams of "Do the dance!" already.
