Two "video paintings" made by Brian Eno in the early '80s are getting their first DVD treatment via Ryko, which also released Eno's latest studio album, Another Day On Earth, earlier this year. The disc, titled Fourteen Video Paintings, contains two extended video pieces "Mistaken Memories of Mediaeval Manhattan" and "Thursday Afternoon." The mesmerizing "Manhattan" behaves a bit like a cat with a video camera, staring endlessly out the windows of various apartments inhabited by Eno while he was in New York working with Talking Heads. Along with the music (it's very Eno-esque, no?), the video is an unusual view of NYC as its skylines gradually transpose in a manner that presages the rise of the computer screensaver. "Thursday Afternoon" presents a more internal look at the world, gliding in and out of semi-nude shots of model Christine Alicino (yes, Eno also invented Ambient Porn.) Think Music For Airports cut with Manet's "Olympia" and you're halfway there. In other Eno news, obsessive fans can bid on the master's Mackie Mixers and synth which are being auctioned off. For an online auction, we expect the seller feedback for Eno to be very good, and for that feedback to be fed through a series of tape delay machines. www.enoweb.co.uk
