Australia's Skybombers may be just out of high school, but they are already kicking up enough noise to honor the spirit of their country's most famous schoolboy rockers. The group's digital-only debut EP, Sirens, just became available, and they will release their first album, the Rick Parker-produced (Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Dandy Warhols)Take Me To Town (Albert Productions/RED) on May 13. But like any good high-energy, dirty-riff loving rock group, Skybombers are already building the reputation out on the road. They are currently opening for punk legends X, and on April 15 they will launch the Passport Approved Tour with Bassboosa, Justin Hopkins and the Guilt. Though no doubt busy with enjoying life of the road, the group's members, Hugh, Sam, Ravi and Scott, were kind enough to chat via collective e-mail about the beginning of their rock 'n' roll campaign. CMJ: What are you gonna bring to the States that we haven't been rocked by before? Sky: The live arena is what we pride ourselves on and where we really make our mark. When you come to a Skybombers show you are rocked from the first chord to the very last note. We're bringing honest foot to the floor Aussie rock n' roll in all it's glory. Trust us, there's no make up and bad bangs here. CMJ: Your band name's pretty badass. You live up to its moniker? Sky: With 'bombers' in your name it's pretty hard not to have a good time (except when dealing with customs). But seriously, Skybombers, Jager-Bombers, Sake-Bombers, we're all about hitting the town and tearing it apart. CMJ: It can be tough for an unknown group to win over crowds who are completely unfamiliar with their work. How has the reaction been from audiences so far? Sky: We've been stoked with the response we've gotten so far. By the end of our set people are always dancing and rocking out. We've not even half way through our tour but have already sold out of all our CD's, it's nuts. CMJ: So you are all just of high school, correct? How are you dealing with all of your sudden success? Sky: We have been playing together for a few years now so it's been a lot of work getting to this point and even now we feel like the roller coaster is really just beginning. That said though we cant even imagine being at university compared to being able to do what we love, make music and tour. It's surreal for sure but we wouldn't trade it for anything.
