Matthew Sweet's still rocking the "power-pop-folk-rock-psychedelic- melodic-singer-songwriter-type stuff" 17 years after Girlfriend made him an early '90s staple of emerging modern rock radio formats and approving critics alike. And he returns with Sunshine Lies, his 10th studio album, on July 22 via Shout! Factory. A tour is slated to follow. Sweet enlightened us further on the album's sound, which he seems very excited about, saying, "When it rocks, it rocks hard with lots of attitude. Then again, it's really very melodic overall, with plenty of dreamy jangling psychedelic poppiness!" Okay! CMJ even procured a sneak peek at the album art, pictured to the left of the story.
