On September 9, Seattle folk-rock singer/songwriter Damien Jurado will release his latest effort, Caught In The Trees (Secretly Canadian). The album's sound is said to be less folk, more rock; the lyrics lean more towards self-relection. As far as the new lyrical direction, Jurado told CMJ, "It is the first time that I have ever written from a personal stand point, unlike in the past, where all of my songs were short stories. There is a line in one of the songs where I say, 'How does it feel to be what you sing about?' I'm talking to me." Joined by drummer Eric Fisher and multi-instrumentalist Jenna Conrad, they all collaborated for a full year with producers Kory Kruckenberg and Casey Foubert. This is the longest Jurado has ever spent on one album. "It was important for me to involve Eric and Jenna as much as possible," says Jurado, "not just because we were now a band, but because these songs were as much mine as they were theirs. Both of them are very talented musicians and songwriters in their own right." To hear a preview of songs from Caught In The Trees, tune in to Fuel TV's The Daily Habit tonight at 9:00 pm EST or 12:00 am EST. Jurado also kicks off a string of three European dates August 17 in the UK, but more US and European dates are set to be announced in the near future. myspace.com/damienjurado
