Kottonmouth Kings, the rap/rock/punk group with acoustic whims, plans to donate to charity a portion of proceeds from their tenth studio release, The Green Album, out October 28 via Suburban Noize. "With The Green Album, obviously the most common theme of it is everybody as a citizen of planet Earth is responsible to contribute what they can," said frontman Brad Xavier, or Daddy X. A portion of proceeds will go to the Surfrider Foundation, Life Rolls On and Operation Ward 57. The Surfrider Foundation is a non-profit devoted to protecting the world's oceans and beaches. "I used to live a block from the beach, and at least once a month the beach has to be shut down due to sewage spills and contamination," said Xavier. "Our DJ Bobby B used to be a professional drop knee body boarder, and he actually wound up in the hospital and almost died from a bacteria infection that he got from swallowing polluted water... The ocean is a part of our existence here in California, and just doing anything that contributes to cleaning up the oceans is something that touches us personally." The Life Rolls On Foundation advocates on behalf of youth whose lives have been affected by spinal chord injuries. The organization was founded by Jesse Billauer after he was paralyzed in a surfing accident at age 17, and his cause is something the Kings can relate to. "Jesse's a good friend of ours, and I also have a cousin who suffered a spinal chord injury," said Xavier. "Plus with our clothing company, SRH, we also sponsor a lot of extreme athletes... We have a whole extreme sports team that we sponsor, and many of them have crazy injuries like that." Operation Ward 57 raises funds and gives support to returning soldiers who need to be treated at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, also known as the amputee ward. "We have a lot of fans that are in the service," said Xavier. "On the last couple tours we've been donating money to Ward 57. It's just a small gesture that we can do to give back." Kottonmouth Kings will also produce a "Think Green" line of merchandise to contribute to the same organizations. "The album's metaphor is about nature, and everyone's thinking green nowadays and pushing for a green planet," said Xavier. "I mean obviously we've been living in a green world for a long time, being the Kottonmouth Kings."
