New York's own the Walkmen have announced that May 23 will be the release date for their third full-length, A Hundred Miles Off. The band produced and recorded the album at their (now former) Harlem Studio (their landlord, Columbia, is kicking them out) and at Inner Ear Studios outside DC. Don Zientara (Fugazi, the Dismemberment Plan) assisted in engineering the recording. The follow-up to their critically acclaimed Bows and Arrows has been heralded as a “much more solid” album. "There are no dips, so it is very different in that regard. We've always been pretty heavy, and this seems a little lighter. I mean, it still sounds like the same band. But it has a lot less organ involved,” vocalist/guitarist Hamilton Leithauser told Billboard.com recently. While some tracks like "Danny's At The Wedding" will sound familiar to the fan's ears, tracks like "Louisiana" are very Dylan Basement Tapes-era/Leonard Cohen inspired, according to the band. The band will continue road-testing their new songs on two dates in Boston and NYC with Irish legends the Pogues and at an appearance at the Coachella Valley Music And Arts Festival in April. They will continue to tour the US and UK in May and June. In the fall, the Walkmen will release another album; a song-by-song recreation of the 1974 Harry Nilsson classic Pussy Cats. A "making-of" DVD will also accompany the release with Record Collection to distribute both the album and DVD. Tracklist for A Hundred Miles Off: 01. Louisiana 02. Danny's At The Wedding 03.
