Tower Records Offers Podcast-Ready Tracks
Mar 6, 2006
Story by: Jessica Suarez

Tower Records announced that this summer will mark the launch of TowerPod, a service that gives podcasters free access to over 6,000 tracks. IODA (Independent Online Distribution Alliance) will provide the songs, which will come from independent labels and musicians. The service will be paid for by embedded advertising, with podcasters splitting the revenues with Tower Records. TowerPod, the first service of its kind from any record store, comes in response to the chain's declining revenues. It's a unique solution as well, as most major record stores and labels have not done much to encourage or facilitate podcast licensing.
